Oscillatory or vibrational motion in which an
object (or point) moves so that its
acceleration towards a central point is
proportional to its distance from it. A
simple example is a pendulum, which also
demonstrates another feature of SHM, that the
maximum deflection is the same on each side
of the central point. A graph of the varying
distance with respect to time is a sine
curve, a characteristic of the oscillating
current or voltage of an alternating current
(AC), which is another example of SHM.
